Cobra 3DP Irons Explained: What 3D Printing Actually Changes
Separating the engineering from the marketing on Cobra's printed irons.

What is actually printed
Not the whole club. Cobra prints an internal lattice structure that sits inside the head, then combines it with conventionally manufactured components.
That lattice is the point. It is a shape that cannot be cast or forged, because casting needs the metal to flow into a mould and forging needs it to be struck into shape. Printing builds it layer by layer, so internal geometry can be almost arbitrary.
What that buys
Weight control, principally. A printed lattice can be light and stiff in places where a solid or hollow head would have to be one or the other.
That freed weight goes somewhere useful — usually low and to the perimeter, or into tungsten placed precisely where a designer wants it. In a blade, it allows a slightly more forgiving club to keep blade dimensions. In a players-distance iron, it supports a thinner, faster face without the head sounding hollow.
What it does not buy
Forgiveness beyond what the head shape allows. A 3DP MB is still a blade — the printing makes it a marginally better blade, not a cavity back in disguise.
It also does not make the club longer in any meaningful sense. Face design and loft determine ball speed; internal structure supports them.
Can you feel it?
Honestly, mostly in sound. A printed lattice damps vibration differently from a hollow cavity, and 3DP irons tend to sound denser and quieter than you might expect from their construction.
Whether that registers as “better feel” is personal. Some golfers notice immediately; others hit twenty shots and could not tell you.
The three models
3DP MB — blade, for consistent strikers who want feedback.
3DP Tour — tour iron, compact with a small margin.
3DP X — players distance, and the one most golfers considering 3DP should actually look at.
Is it worth paying for?
The printed models sit above the cast KING equivalents in price. The question is whether the construction earns that gap for you.
If you are choosing between 3DP X and KING Tec X, hit both. They occupy similar territory, and the difference is smaller than the technology story implies. If they perform the same for you, the cheaper one is the better buy and there is no shame in saying so.
Where it genuinely matters
At the compact end. A blade or tour iron has very little room to move weight around, so any manufacturing method that creates more room has a real effect there.
In a game-improvement head there is already plenty of space for weight, so the advantage shrinks.
Coach’s tip: Judge 3DP irons the way you would judge any iron — on dispersion, flight and turf interaction. Manufacturing method is a reason a club might be good, not evidence that it is.
