Which Cobra Driver Suits Your Swing?

Working from your typical miss to a single OPTM head.

Start with the miss

Swing speed is the number golfers quote. The miss is what costs strokes. Find yours:

  • Right, weak, losing height — you need launch and help squaring the face. MAX-D, and more loft.
  • Right, but flying well — a path issue more than a face issue. MAX-K or X, with the hosel set to help.
  • Left, low, running out — you are closing the face hard. MAX-D would make this worse. Look at X, and check your grip size.
  • High, stalling, dropping short — spin. LS if your strike is repeatable, otherwise X with a lower-spin shaft.
  • Scattered both ways — strike quality. MAX-K, and shorten the shaft.

Speed as a secondary filter

Moderate speeds want forgiveness, loft and a light shaft. MAX-K or MAX-D, with more loft than instinct suggests. Under-lofting is the most common self-inflicted distance loss in amateur golf.

Middle speeds sit naturally in X, with MAX-K available if the strike is inconsistent.

High speeds open up LS — but only alongside a repeatable strike.

FutureFit33 is for refinement

The adjustable hosel fine-tunes a head that already suits you. It does not turn one head into another.

Two useful facts. Independent loft and lie adjustment means you can add loft without closing the face as much as a single-setting hosel would. And if you need an extreme setting to make a driver work, you are in the wrong head.

Length beats almost everything

Stock drivers are longer than most golfers should play. Half an inch shorter reliably improves centre contact, and centre contact beats marginal speed nearly every time.

If two OPTM heads test identically, try the same head shorter. That change frequently outperforms switching model.

A short decision path

  1. Consistent slice → MAX-D, more loft, lighter shaft.
  2. Strike wanders → MAX-K, shorter shaft.
  3. No specific problem → X.
  4. Fast, consistent, high spin → LS.
  5. Whichever you pick, have the length and shaft weight set before the head is finalised.

Coach’s tip: If your good drives only appear when you swing easily, the club is too long, too light, or both. That is a build problem, not a technique problem.
