Course maintenance
Common Myths About Course Maintenance
Separate real conditioning issues from common golfer misconceptions about turf.

Not every complaint is a maintenance failure
Golfers love to blame conditions, but some myths deserve retiring. A bunker can be raked and still play differently after rain. Greens can be healthy without being lightning fast. Brown areas may be intentional water management, not neglect.
Common myths
| Myth | Reality |
|---|---|
| Faster greens are always better | Speed must match health and design |
| Green means healthy | Firm, tan turf can be excellent |
| All bunkers should feel identical | Weather and sand depth vary |
| Cart rules are arbitrary | They protect turf and drainage |

Play what’s there
Adapt first, complain last. The golfer who adjusts fastest usually scores best.
