Beginner Mistakes When Choosing Golf Simulators
The easy traps golfers fall into with simulators, plus simple fixes that work on the range and course.

Where new golfers get caught
Beginners often buy simulators for the golfer they hope to be next year. The gap between what the system can do and what you currently practice shows up as wasted budget on features that never leave the menu. Start with a setup that fits your room, budget, and the two or three practice patterns you repeat most.
Common mistakes include:
- Choosing a system based on virtual course libraries rather than data accuracy for the shots they practise most.
- Ignoring how simulators behaves in wind, rain, heat, or hills.
- Buying entry-level radar without checking whether the ball-flight numbers match outdoor carry distances.
- Forgetting that the screen and mat wear faster than the sensor unit and need a replacement budget.
The simple fix
Run your most common practice drill and note whether the data feedback keeps the session moving or interrupts it. If you start hitting differently to produce better-looking data rather than practising your real patterns, the system has reversed its purpose. Move on.
