Benchmarks for Golf Statistics by Skill Level
Use statistics as a guidepost, not a verdict, as your game develops.

Use ranges, not verdicts
Benchmarks for statistics are guide rails. A 20-handicapper and a 5-handicapper should not judge the same number the same way, because their recovery skills, distance, and course choices differ. Improvement is usually the fairest benchmark.
| Player goal | Useful focus |
|---|---|
| Breaking 100 | Reduce penalties and three-putts |
| Breaking 90 | Improve approach contact and short-game saves |
| Breaking 80 | Tighten dispersion and wedge control |
Track your trend
If the pattern is improving over a month, you’re moving. Don’t let one windy Saturday erase four good rounds of evidence.
