Practice with consequences

Pressure practice for swing basics should feel a little uncomfortable. Set a tee-shot target, a fairway window, and a consequence for missing: restart from one, or add a ball to the session. The format matters less than having a rule you actually follow through.

Try this mini-test:

  1. Choose one swing key — not three — and commit to it for the full mini-session.
  2. Hit five balls to a specific target with a complete pre-shot routine.
  3. Score one point for hitting the target and one for the swing key holding under effort.
  4. Don’t move to a new key until you score eight points out of ten.

Why it works

Practising with a target and a consequence trains the whole process — not just the mechanics, but the commitment, the trust, and the ability to let the swing go when it matters.
