Benchmarks for Putting Stats by Skill Level
Reasonable putting benchmarks by skill level—and why personal trends matter more than bragging rights.

Benchmarks are signposts
Benchmarks help, but they are not laws. Beginners should first reduce three-putts and make the tap-ins automatic. Mid-handicappers often gain most by improving speed from 20 to 40 feet. Low-handicappers need sharper start lines and better conversion inside 10 feet.
| Skill level | Useful focus |
|---|---|
| Beginner | Avoid three-putts |
| Improving | Make short putts routine |
| Competitive | Convert more makeable chances |
Trend beats snapshot
One round is noisy. Ten rounds tell a story. Watch whether your weak area is shrinking.
Pick one target
Choose the benchmark that fits your game right now. Chasing every number at once usually improves none of them.
