The Essential Rules Every Golfer Should Know
The everyday rules situations that keep casual rounds fair, quick, and argument-free.

Know the common stuff first
You do not need to memorize the entire Rules of Golf to be a better playing partner. Start with the situations that happen every month: lost balls, out of bounds, penalty areas, unplayable lies, cart paths, embedded balls, and order of play in match play.
Why it helps
Rules knowledge protects the field and speeds up the group. It also keeps you from taking penalties you do not owe or skipping penalties you do.
A good habit
When uncertain, announce what you are doing, mark or identify the ball carefully, and check the rule before signing a scorecard.
