One metalwood name, four suffixes

TaylorMade’s current driver, fairway wood and hybrid generation is called Qi4D. Every metalwood in the range wears that name, then adds a suffix that tells you the job: standard, LS (low spin, faster swings), Max (maximum forgiveness) and Max Lite (lightweight, higher launch). Learn that suffix logic once and it applies across all three categories, which is genuinely useful — a driver fitting result usually carries straight across to the fairway wood and the Rescue hybrid.

Two iron ranges, not one

This is the single thing worth understanding before you shop TaylorMade irons. Qi Max and Qi Max HL are the game-improvement side: bigger heads, more forgiveness, built for higher handicaps and slower swing speeds. The P-SeriesP790, P770, P7CB, P7MC and P7MB — is a separate ladder for better ball strikers, running from a hollow-body distance iron down to a genuine muscle-back blade. The two ranges don’t blend into each other on a shelf; they are aimed at different golfers entirely, and picking from the wrong one is an easy, expensive mistake.

Rescue hybrids

TaylorMade calls its hybrids Rescue. The current line mirrors the metalwood suffixes — standard, Max and Max Lite Rescue heads — so the same fitting logic that picked your driver head applies here too.

Wedges

The forged wedge family centres on Milled Grind 5 (MG5), the all-round option, alongside Hi-Toe 5, a full-face design built for open-face and high-toe play around the green.

Putters

Putters run under Spider, TaylorMade’s high-MOI mallet line, and the TP Collection of blades and compact shapes. Neck styles — small slant, double bend, single bend, flow neck — change how the putter reacts to your stroke far more than the badge on the sole does.

Where to go next

If you’re new to the brand, start with the tiering guide and the naming explainer next. If you already know roughly what you need, jump straight to the driver, iron or wedge comparison for that category.

Fitting note: TaylorMade’s split between Qi Max and the P-Series is the most important decision in the whole range. Get that right before you worry about which suffix to buy.

Model names current as of September 2026. TaylorMade typically refreshes metalwoods roughly annually; the standard / LS / Max / Max Lite structure has been stable across recent generations.
