Describe your home course honestly before choosing anything.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\u003Cstrong>Firm, dry, tight lies, sandy soil.\u003C\u002Fstrong> Lower bounce and relieved grinds. High bounce will bounce the leading edge into the equator of the ball.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\u003Cstrong>Soft, lush, wet winters, heavy soil.\u003C\u002Fstrong> More bounce. Low bounce will dig and produce fat shots.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\u003Cstrong>Mixed.\u003C\u002Fstrong> Mid bounce throughout, accepting that no single setup is ideal in both.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch3>Then look at your bunkers\u003C\u002Fh3>\n\u003Cp>Bunker sand varies enormously and is often nothing like the turf around it. Soft, deep sand wants high bounce. Firm, thin, compacted sand wants less.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>If your course has one but not the other, fit your sand wedge to the bunkers and your other wedges to the turf.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch3>Setting the lofts\u003C\u002Fh3>\n\u003Cp>Work downward from your pitching wedge, not upward from your lob wedge.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Col>\n\u003Cli>Note the actual loft of your set pitching wedge. With T250 or T350 this may be much stronger than you assume.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>Space each wedge 4–6° apart.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>Stop when the highest loft is one you will actually use under pressure.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003C\u002Fol>\n\u003Ch3>A worked example\u003C\u002Fh3>\n\u003Cp>\u003Cstrong>Strong iron lofts, firm course:\u003C\u002Fstrong> PW at 43°, then 48° mid bounce, 54° mid bounce, 58° low bounce with a relieved grind.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\u003Cstrong>Standard lofts, soft course:\u003C\u002Fstrong> PW at 46°, then 52° mid bounce, 56° high bounce, 60° mid to high.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\u003Cstrong>Two wedges only:\u003C\u002Fstrong> 52° and 58°, both mid bounce. Simple, effective, and it removes a decision from every approach.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch3>Measure the carries\u003C\u002Fh3>\n\u003Cp>Once built, record carry at a full swing and at a controlled three-quarter swing for each wedge. That gives you six numbers rather than three, and the six are what you will actually use.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Write them down. Do not rely on your recollection of what a 54° carries — it is almost always optimistic.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch3>Shafts matter here too\u003C\u002Fh3>\n\u003Cp>Wedge shafts should be at least as heavy as your iron shafts, and ideally a touch heavier. A light wedge shaft encourages a fast, loose transition that wrecks distance control.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>This is the most commonly overlooked detail in an otherwise careful wedge fitting.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch3>Replacement strategy\u003C\u002Fh3>\n\u003Cp>Replace your most-used wedge every second season and let the others run longer. Replacing all three at once wastes money on clubs that have barely been touched.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cblockquote>\n\u003Cp>\u003Cstrong>Buying tip:\u003C\u002Fstrong> Buy your sand wedge and lob wedge with different bounces unless your course is uniformly soft.
