The head looks almost identical from above but has weight moved to the perimeter, providing a modest but real margin.

For most golfers considering the 620s, this is the more sensible of the two — and the gap between them is larger in performance than it is in appearance.

How they compare to T100

T100 is a modern tour iron. It uses tungsten weighting and a construction aimed at giving control without punishing every small miss.

620 CB is a more traditional design with less built-in help. 620 MB has essentially none.

Put plainly: T100 is more forgiving than 620 CB, which is more forgiving than 620 MB. A golfer who wants tour looks and modern performance should look hard at T100 before assuming the 620s are the “proper” choice.

Who the 620s are genuinely for

Golfers who find the centre of the face consistently and who actively use the feedback a blade provides to self-correct.

That second part is the one people skip. Feedback is only valuable if it changes something. If a thin strike simply hurts and teaches you nothing, you are paying a performance cost for no return.

The maintenance requirement

Soft carbon steel bends easily. That is exactly what you want when a fitter is adjusting lie angle, and it is a liability over a season of use.

Blades need their lofts and lies checked more often than cast irons. If you play regularly and never check them, your set is drifting away from the specification you bought.

Long irons deserve separate thought

Even very good players benefit from help at the top of the set. A 620 MB 4-iron is a demanding club in anyone’s hands.

Combo sets are the norm here for a reason. T150 or T250 in the long irons into 620 CB below is a strong build that many good players would score better with than a full blade set.

An honest word on aspiration

More sets of blades are bought than are well used. If you are drawn to the 620s primarily by how they look in the bag, that is a legitimate thing to want — just be clear that is what you are buying, and consider a combo set so the aspiration costs you fewer shots.

Coach’s tip: Play a full round with a blade 5-iron before committing to a set.
