Example 1: the blind tee shot
The fairway bends right and the landing area is half in shadow. Instead of driver, choose a fairway wood or hybrid to the visible left center. You may give up distance, but you gain a ball you can find and an approach you can play without guessing.
Example 2: the darkening par 3
The flag is tucked behind a bunker, and the green surface is hard to read. Aim at the fattest part of the green. A 25-foot putt in low light is much easier than a bunker shot where you cannot judge the lip or landing spot.
Example 3: the final hole race
Your group can finish if everyone keeps moving. This is the time for ready golf, clear targets, and no second practice putts. Choose clubs that keep the ball in front of you and leave the course feeling like you completed a round, not a chase.
