How to Choose Golf Course Reviews for Your Skill Level
Find reviews that tell you whether a course fits your handicap, confidence, and group.

Look past the rating
A 4.7 score does not tell you whether you will enjoy the round. Scan for skill clues: tight landing areas, forced carries, fast greens, wide fairways, friendly tees, penal rough, or easy-to-lose balls.
Match length to real distance
Do not choose tees by pride. Choose them by how often you will hit reasonable approach clubs. If most par 4s leave you fairway wood into the green, the course is probably too long for a fun day.
Consider the group
One player fighting every hole can slow the day and sour the mood. For mixed groups, favor visible targets, bailout areas, and shorter tee options. Save the narrow, windy, forced-carry course for players who enjoy that test.
Skill-fit checklist
- Can your group carry the main hazards from the right tees?
- Are misses findable?
- Is walking or cart use realistic?
- Do reviews praise pace and staff help for first-timers?
