Srixon Club Naming Explained: ZXi, RKT and the Cleveland Connection
Decoding the names, and understanding why half the bag carries a different badge.
ZX and ZXi
ZX is Srixon’s long-running club family name. ZXi is the current generation of it.
If you see ZX Mk II or plain ZX, those are previous generations. They are not bad clubs — Srixon’s generational changes are incremental — but they are older, and they should be priced accordingly.
The iron numbers
In Srixon’s irons, a lower number means less help:
- ZXi7 — players iron, least forgiving.
- ZXi5 — players distance.
- ZXi4 — forgiveness focused.
- ZXiR — game improvement, most help.
Note that R sits at the forgiving end rather than in the numeric sequence. Think of it as the model beyond the numbers rather than one of them.
This is the reverse of how several rivals number their irons, where higher numbers mean more help. It catches people out.
RKT
The suffix on the current drivers, fairway woods and hybrids. It denotes the current metalwood generation and the face and speed technology in it.
Within RKT the head names follow the usual convention:
- ZXi RKT — standard.
- ZXi RKT Max — forgiving.
- ZXi RKT LS — low spin.
ZXiU
The utility iron. U for utility. It replaces a long iron with an iron-shaped club — a driving iron rather than a hybrid.
The Cleveland connection
Srixon and Cleveland share a parent company, Dunlop, and the ranges are divided rather than duplicated.
Srixon builds drivers, fairway woods, hybrids and irons. Cleveland builds wedges and putters.
There is no Srixon wedge and there is no Srixon putter. If someone offers you one, it does not exist.
Why that division is good for you
Two reasons.
First, Cleveland is a genuine short-game specialist rather than a brand filling out a catalogue. Its wedge range is deeper and better considered than most full-line manufacturers’ wedge offerings.
Second, the two brands are designed to be used together, so the transition from a Srixon pitching wedge into a Cleveland gap wedge is a normal, supported build rather than a compromise.
Reading a full name
- ZXi RKT Max — current metalwood generation, forgiving driver head.
- ZXi5 — current iron generation, players-distance model.
- ZXiU — current generation utility iron.
Buying tip: Remember that lower iron numbers mean less forgiveness at Srixon. ZXi4 is more forgiving than ZXi7, which is the opposite of what the numbers suggest at some other brands.
