How to Order Sub 70 Without a Fitting Studio
Buying a custom-built club when you cannot walk in and hit one.
The problem to solve
Sub 70 builds every club to your specification, which is the main reason to buy from them. But specifying a club requires knowing what to specify, and there is no studio down the road to tell you.
That gap is where most bad direct-to-consumer purchases happen. It is entirely avoidable.
Step one: get fitted somewhere else
Pay for an independent fitting at a retailer or fitting centre carrying several brands. It costs a fraction of what you save buying direct.
What you want out of it is numbers, not a recommendation: length, lie angle, shaft weight and profile, swing speed, and your launch and spin figures with irons and driver.
Step two: write down the build sheet
Length, lie, loft, shaft model and flex, grip model and size, swing weight. Every one of those is a field on the order form, and every one you leave at default is a decision made by an average rather than by you.
Step three: use the demo programme
Sub 70 lets you try clubs before committing. Use it, particularly for the driver and for any iron set where you are choosing between two tiers.
Feel and sound cannot be specified on a form, and they are the things golfers most often dislike after ordering blind.
Step four: order conservatively on the first purchase
Buy the irons first rather than a whole bag. If the feel, sound and build quality suit you, the rest follows easily. If they do not, you have limited the mistake.
What to do if you cannot get fitted
Measure what you already play. Length, lie and shaft of your current irons, plus an honest note of your typical miss, gets you most of the way.
Matching your existing specification is a far safer starting point than guessing at an ideal one.
The mistake to avoid
Ordering standard specification because the form allows it. If you accept every default, you have bought a rack club without the benefit of having hit it first, which is the worst of both worlds.
Fitting tip: Take your current 7-iron to the fitting and have it measured. Knowing exactly what you play now makes every ordering decision afterwards concrete rather than theoretical.
