Sub 70 Golf Clubs

Sub 70 vs PXG: Two Different Direct-to-Consumer Models

Both sell direct, and almost everything else about them differs.

The shared idea

Both brands cut out retail distribution and sell straight to the golfer, and both build clubs to order rather than pulling them off a rack.

That is where the similarity ends, and the differences matter more than the shared label.

PXG’s version

Fitting-led, with physical studios and mobile fitting events. The model assumes you will be fitted in person, and the pricing sits in premium territory even though it has broadened considerably from the brand’s early days.

You are buying a fitting experience with a club attached.

Sub 70’s version

Price-led, with a demo programme rather than a studio network. Custom specifications come standard at no upcharge, but you are expected to know what to ask for.

You are buying a club at close to manufacturing cost, and the fitting is your responsibility to arrange.

Which suits which golfer

Take PXG if you want the fitting handled for you, you value the studio experience, and you are comfortable in the premium price band.

Take Sub 70 if you already know your specifications, price is a primary consideration, and you are happy to arrange a fitting independently.

The overlap case

A golfer who gets fitted independently at a multi-brand centre and then orders can use either. At that point the decision is purely about how much you want to spend and how the heads feel in the demo.

What both share

Thin resale markets, limited walk-in testing, and a requirement that you engage with specifications rather than picking up whatever is on the shelf. Neither suits an impulse buyer.

The honest framing

PXG competes with premium retail brands on experience and specification. Sub 70 competes with everyone on price. They are not really rivals, despite both being described the same way.

Buying tip: Whichever you choose, pay for one independent multi-brand fitting first. It costs little and it is what makes buying direct from either brand a good decision rather than a hopeful one.
